City of Amarillo Police Department Online Registration Form:
E.M.A.S. - E-Mail Alert System

What is E.M.A.S.?
Everyday e-mail is being utilized by more homes and businesses. E.M.A.S. uses this new communication tool to deliver information directly to the public from the police department. On an as need basis participants of this program will receive crime alerts, crime prevention tips, requests for assistance, and other community related messages. E.M.A.S. will afford the public the opportunity to participate in the process of community policing by being informed of events occurring in their neighborhoods. It also allows the public to communicate directly back to the police. E.M.A.S IS NOT USED FOR EMERGENCY INFORMATION!  For emergency information, continue to listen to your radio, TV., or Emergency Alert System radio or weather radio.

Why is E.M.A.S. important?
Currently, the public is dependant on the news media to receive information about criminal activity. Many times there is a delay in the reporting of this information and often the information is limited in detail. The faster the police can disseminate the information to the public, the better chance the public can be of assistance. E.M.A.S. allows for time sensitive information to be disseminated to the public either as the events are occurring or shortly after the incident. Often, individuals are not aware that they witnessed criminal activity.

Any person interested in Amarillo community safety can receive E.M.A.S. This is a FREE service. There is no special hardware or software needed. All you need is your standard e-mail address.

What information will I receive?
There are three basic types of E.M.A.S. messages:

  • Alerts - Information about current criminal activity, missing children or endangered elderly adults with enough detail to help develop leads in a case. Police may disseminate information as to general location of criminal activity, any vehicles they may be looking for or description of suspects, missing children or endangered adults.
  • Follow-Ups  - Additional information, when appropriate, on the disposition of incidents reported earlier, including information on any arrests or other new appropriate details.
  • Community Related Messages - Information on crime prevention, community related, or news worthy events, etc.

PROGRAM RULES: (1) These emails are not used for emergency information; I must listen to a radio, television, or Emergency Alert System radio for emergency information. (2) The number, frequency, and length of emails will vary.
